Decades ago, two boys sat in the kitchen waiting for their mother to finish cooking ugali. Teasingly, the younger boy punched his brother on the head. The older boy lost his temper, grabbed a piece of ugali from the cooking pot and hurled it at his brother. The steaming ball of ugali landed on the boy’s eye and destroyed it permanently. The injured boy is now an old man who has never seen with his right eye since that day.
That is how destructive a hot temper can be.
Are you one of those teens who when enraged can utter abominable words and do grievous acts like cursing, revenge, fight, murder, suicide or destruction of property?
If you are, then know this is wrong and dangerous and aim to stop it. You can try the following to lessen your anger.
The best thing to do once upset is to move away from the situation and let yourself cool off before responding.
If you are so angered that you find yourself biting your lips or clenching your fists, channel your anger to positive things such as playing football or reading a story book.
You could also jog or move to a quiet place and listen to soothing music. Praying can direct your thoughts away from the situation.
