Dieting is probably one of the most searched terms on Google as many people struggle with their weight and it is no wonder snake oil sellers throng the web luring innocent seekers with dangerous pills, diet plans and supplements that do not work.

Although a controversial subject where feelings can get hurt on the way, the truth is, excessive weight is detrimental on our overall health. Mentally, emotionally and physically.

If your Body Mass Index (BMI) is high, that is an indicator of high body fatness.

This however is not the time to get discouraged but take that as a sign you need to take action to get back into shape.

All those comfort bingeing foods you have been enjoying need to be shed off.

But here is the thing though, there is no miracle diet that can magically make the weight disappear. You have to put in the work and make some painful sacrifices.

  • The pegan diet

Not the most sustainable of diets, this diet encourages weight watchers to eat real whole foods while leaving out grains. And if you don’t already know, whole grains form part of a healthy diet due to their high dietary fiber our bodies need for a healthy heart.

An amalgamation of paleo and vegan, a pegan diet practically involves eating a plant-based diet with that of a carnivorous that the cavemen ate.

A typical meal would be a grilled steak with a multi-colored veggie salad.

  • Intermittent fasting

One of the best ways to cut down on your calories is monitoring when you take it. With intermittent fasting, you alternate periods of eating and fasting.

More effective than most weight loss diets, this type of fasting burns fats more and improves metabolism.

You can choose to do this using the 16/8 method whereby you have an unlimited eight-hour window to eat then feast for the other 16 hours. You want to plan the 16 hours around your bedtime so you don’t feel the effect of the hunger pangs.

Your diet will largely be made of kales, onions, parsley, strawberries, some red wine, matcha tea and oily fish like mackerel and salmon.

  • Raw vegan

Be warned, this is not for everyone. In addition to not enjoying your favorite meats, cheese or any dairy, this extreme vegan version requires that no food be cooked above 50 degrees C.

The reason behind this argument is that food cooked above that temperature kills all the good and useful nutrients your body needs.

You will have to eat most foods in their natural state and lots of fruits.

Studies have shown that this diet helps in weight management, detoxing, prevention of certain diseases and keeping your cholesterol and blood pressure in check.
