Menopause marks the end of your reproductive years and is mostly characterised by the end of regular periods. If after twelve months you don't experience any period, you can be diagnosed with having begun the menopause stage. It typically affects women in their 40s and 50s and is characterized by some of the following signs.

1. Irregular periods

Before a complete phase of full-blown menopause, you'll begin to experience flow this month, skipping another. This means your body is beginning to change its hormonal clock. Be observant to see which stage and flow intervals you are in.

2. Vaginal dryness

You'll realize that your usually wetish privates are getting dry. This is as a result of the mucus around the cervix drying up over time. Consequently, your vagina is also dry.

3. Hot flashes and night sweats

Mostly happening at night, you'll realize that your body temperature goes higher during the menopause days calling. Even on a cold day, sweating may become something you constantly deal with.

4. Sleep problems

As you near menopause, the sleep issues become challenging. You'll find it difficult to get sleepy. In most cases you'll realize that you're more awake. This may also be contributed from the heat flashes you gave.

5. Mood changes

As your hormones fluctuate, you'll see yourself or hear other comments that you've been having such high and low moods. They constantly change as one moment you can be happy and the other irritable.

6. Weight gain and slowed metabolism

You'll definitely add on some kilos once menopause starts kicking in. It has alot to do with the metabolism change. Be sure to check your weight regularly to see how you are fairing.

What is worse: a fake smile or a grumpy face?
