Six ways to get rid of shoulder acne

Health

If you thought acne only develop on the face, you are very mistaken. It occurs on different parts of the body and one of those is the shoulders being more common in men than women.

We are likely to suffer from acne when bacteria clog up our pores or when excess oil and impurities cause an inflammation on our hair follicles. They can also be caused by friction, excess keratin or an allergic reaction. Shoulder acne can be painful and cause swelling and redness.

To get rid of these annoying pimples, here are six ways that you can get rid of shoulder acne at the comfort of your home.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains lactic acid and malic acid that help remedy shoulder acne, exfoliate the skin and help balance the PH level of your skin. ACV also has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that help deal with skin problems. Simply take some raw and unfiltered apple cider vinegar and mix with some water in a 1:3 ratio. Apply this to the affected area and after 15 minutes, rinse off with lukewarm water. Repeat this twice or thrice a day.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil also contains antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. This helps it fight acne-causing bacteria as well as give relief from soreness and redness on skin. Take two drops of tea tree oil and put on a moist cotton swab. Dab it on the affected area and leave it for an hour. Rinse off with cold water and do this twice daily.

Warm compress

The warm temperature in a warm compress helps remove bacteria and pus from the clogged skin pores and decreases pain as well as inflammation. Take a teaspoon of table salt and mix it in two cups of warm water. Soak a wash cloth in it and wring out the excess water. Press the warm washcloth on the affected area for about 10 minutes. When the cloth starts to cool down, replace. Repeat this process a few times in the day. For this remedy, you may need help from someone else to reach all affected areas.

Turmeric

Turmeric has antibacterial properties that will help you kill the acne-causing bacteria. Its antiseptic properties will ensure that the acne-affected area does not get an infection. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder with some water or a bit of coconut oil to form a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area and leave it for an hour. Wash it off with lukewarm water and do this twice a day for a few days.

Oatmeal

When you can’t spot treat your acne, you can always take an oatmeal bath. Take one cup of oatmeal powder and mix it in a warm bath. Take a soak in the bath for about 15 minutes, pat your skin dry after this and apply a light moisturizer. Do this bath once every day.

Good skin care

One way to prevent shoulder acne all together is to take really good care of your skin. Make sure to take a bath or shower regularly and use a cleanser that will remove dirt and accumulated sebum. After rinsing out conditioner from your hair, always wash your back to make sure no hair products remain on your skin. Make sure to exfoliate your shoulders at least once a week so as to prevent your pores from clogging up.
