With Christmas just around the corner, we are all in that festive mood and dieting is the last thing we want to think of. Somehow with all the excitement, this can actually invite doom to your fitness and health plans.
This is one time where most people tend to overindulge especially in eating forgetting the hard work they once put in to achieve the ideal weight and physic they have been looking for.
Partying, merry making and holiday getaways are not that bad, the key is just to do all these with a plan. Here are few pointers you need to consider as you go out there.
Find fun ways to get you and your family moving. Being Christmas doesn’t mean your activity level or exercise has to stop. With too much food and sitting going around, try to invent simple physical activities that can get your body moving.
Instead of just sitting lazily chatting, you can decide to go for a swim, nature walk with family members or even go dancing together. Besides fun, your body will get the exercise it needs.
Just challenge yourself Since this is a period where you may not have time for a full programmed workout, try to challenge your body by doing different sets of simple activities like normal house chores, walking the distance instead of always being mobile or carrying your shopping instead of either using a trolley or a porter . Doing this makes your body respond positively to such challenges.
Do your own shopping It is important now than ever to always stock your kitchen with healthy foods and bitings. It doesn’t mean you can’t have a few cheat meals on specific days? For cheat days, try not to overindulge.
Make sure your healthy snacks and bitings come in handy because the more convenient they are, the more you are likely to eat them. Things like fruits, healthy shakes and yoghurt can work just fine instead of dense caloric beverages. Plan your holiday treats well.
Plan your holiday treats accordingly If you have your favourite treat, commit to only those to avoid consumption of any “accidental” junk or food that may come your way which you were not planning on. And in case you can’t resist the temptation, don’t beat yourself up, go back to your healthy routine.
Spend also quality time with family and friends. It doesn’t mean eating all the time. A time well spent together is worth more than any food you can eat.
Learn to say no Decide that you are only going for the meals you really want making sure you think twice before taking any meal that most people are going to offer you especially now. Learn to say no where necessary, even if there is so much in plenty. Not all you see enticing is good for you. You can even ask for options if you have to.
