Adorable Romeo, 6, sets bar high for Valentine’s Day as he surprises girlfriend on doorstep

A young Romeo is setting the bar for Valentine’s Day after surprising his lockdown ‘girlfriend’ with flowers and a gift at her doorstep.

Etien Hoyes, six, bonded with classmate Maisie Golledge, also six, after they were both finding lockdown lonely without any siblings to play with.

The two started chatting on daily video calls and now refer to one another as ‘boyfriend’ and ‘girlfriend’.

To put a smile of Maisie’s face, the Surrey boy decided to surprise her by turning up on her doorstep armed with flowers and a Trolls lip balm.

His young love was delighted and jumped up and down with joy as he handed her the gifts.

The wooed schoolgirl told her beau that she loved him.

Etien's mum Angela shared a video of the romantic gesture on Facebook, where the post has attracted the attention of more than 5,000 people so far.

“Lockdown has brought Etien and Maisie closer and closer as they video call or send video messages pretty much every day,” Angela said.

“I think because they are both only children they have needed each other more in this difficult time – and it has clearly worked well.

“Etien decided he wanted to make Maisie happy and insisted we go out and buy flowers for her, which he spent ages choosing, and some Trolls lip balm.

“He was so excited about seeing her, even from a distance that he dressed up in his cool shades.

“When they video message, they generally spend their time showing each other new tricks they have learnt – Etien somersaults on the bed or shows her his guinea pigs and Maisie dances.”

Maisie’s mum, Colette said the pair “absolutely adore” each other and that her daughter was sent “over the moon” by the sweet surprise.

Taking to Facebook to share the moment, Angela wrote: “My little boy has been without his friends for so long.

“His 'girlfriend' is also an only child. They text and video call most days.

“However, my son wanted to make her happy, so he asked me if we could buy her some flowers and lip balm to give to her.

“Her reaction absolutely made his dreams come true.”

The touching video has triggered high emotions among watchers, with one describing the gesture as “absolutely beautiful”.

Another person called Etien a “true gent in the making”, while someone else said the video made her heart “swell”.

Someone else commented: “This is so precious, what a sweet boy you have.

"They are adorable, her reaction is just beautiful.”

Angela added: “We are so amazed at how one act from a little boy wanting to make a little girl smile has now made people smile.

“That is such an amazing thing and her reaction to his surprise made all his dreams comes true.”
