Giovanna Fletcher has told how interviewing the Duchess of Cambridge was the highlight of her mum podcasting career.

The 35-year-old has children the same age as Kate’s and the pair had chatted about bringing up George, six, Charlotte, four, and one-year-old Louis with Prince William.

The Duchess, 38, opened up about mum guilt in the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast and said she felt lonely after George was born in 2013.

Giovanna said: “Kate was my dream guest for so long, so having her on the podcast was amazing.

“I found a lot of common ground with her. Motherhood is a complete leveller. I did have a moment halfway through where I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s the Duchess of Cambridge.’

“But for the most part, I found her warm and open.

"I felt like I was chatting to a fellow mum. I found what she was saying quite amazing, and the fact she was opening up.

“She’s just like other mums.

"She’s self-deprecating, like all of us.

"She’s warm, she’s really interested in other people.

"Which is why I think people really like her. It was one hell of an experience, absolutely amazing. I don’t know how I’m going to top that.”

Giovanna also told how she is coping in coronavirus lockdown with husband, McFly frontman, Tom Fletcher, 34, and sons, Buzz, six, Buddy, four, and one-year-old Max.

The author and presenter said: “Three of us have coughs and Buzz is asthmatic, so we are staying home.

“Tom’s tour has been cancelled, I’ve had loads of work cancelled.

“We’re following government guidelines. I think it’s just a cough, but who knows. It’s such a scary time.

“Tom was supposed to be on tour in Brazil for Mother’s Day.

“The main focus of the day was to have all the mums here, mine, Tom’s and his nan, my sister’s mother-in-law.

“This year it will be a bit different, it will just be us five, myself, Tom and our three boys.

“We’re lucky we’re a family and we’re in the same house. I do realise how difficult it must be for some people who can’t get to their mums this Sunday.

“Being a mum during this pandemic is really worrying, even though we’re told cases in children are mild and it doesn’t really affect them.”

During her podcast chat with Kate, parenting guru Giovanna asked if she suffered from mum guilt.

The Duchess replied: “Yep, all the time, yep. It’s a constant challenge. You hear it time and time again from mums.

“Even mums who aren’t necessarily working and aren’t having to juggle work life and family life.

Magical

“And always sort of questioning your own decisions and judgements. I think that starts from the moment you have a baby.”

Speaking of her loneliness after George’s birth, Kate added: “It took us a bit of time to get settled. You are pulled to your toughest and most unknown places that you hadn’t thought about before.”

Speaking about her own experiences as a mum, Giovanna said: “It is amazing, it is the most magical thing, but I also cry in the cupboard a lot.

“I also have these little children who don’t listen to a single word I say.

“I’m confused, exhausted, I don’t know what I’m doing most of the time.”

If you could choose any age, to stay in for the rest of your life, which would it be?
