We agreed not to kiss at the altar

Bridal
 Gladys and Manasseh

BRIDE: Gladys Nyawira Wambui GROOM: Kaindwa Manasseh Asser VENUE: PCEA Makupa DATE: August 22, 2015 GUESTS: 500

FIRST DATE Gladys: It was back in campus in 2011, and I still remember it was on a Wednesday. He was the Christian Union Chairman and I was the Secretary. One day he took me to a hotel nearby and during lunch he expressed his mission and interest but I asked him for time to prayerfully consider the matter.

THE PROPOSAL Gladys: We had come from a wedding planning meeting and he was seeing me off to my place. I didn't know that he had the ring with him. Just before he left, he asked me to close my eyes. He took the ring out and asked me to marry him. I accepted and he put the ring on my finger. I must say I was overwhelmed to tears.

THE DRAMA; Gladys: We had agreed to have one person to provide tents and then do decoration for both the church and reception. Come Friday morning, the appointed lady said she assumed that we are providing tents as she only decorates tents on site! So I made last minute calls to have someone do it for us.

Our best couple took up the matter and finally by 5pm that day the decor work began. They finalised it in time for the wedding. It was a tense few hours. Mannaseh: Everyone's expectation was for me to kiss the bride after the vows. On the contrary, we had settled on hugging. It was a big surprise to the congregation and there was a lot of laughter.

WITH HINDSIGHT Gladys: Put God first, and don't you forget it's about the two of you. Sometimes, concentrating on what has not been done can really strain  you. Be there for each other even when things seem not to be working.

Do have people who can assist you in reasoning, planning and implementing your plans, especially people who have been there before. Mannaseh: Proverbs 19:14 says, House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord." Marriage is an institution sanctioned by God.

Therefore whoever desires the best in marriage must begin with God for the right partner and entry, continue with God for blessings and sustenance, and eventually die in God having lived God's purpose for marriage and family as revealed in the Bible.
