As parents, it is hard to juggle between work and taking care of a family. Nowadays work and life responsibilities pass by so fast and therefore we need to spend as much time as possible with our children.

Children need quality time with their parents and caregivers so that they can have a good upbringing, emotional and physical support as well as a positive impact on their well-being and stages of development. It’s not the endless hours of time you spend with your children but how you choose to spend the time that truly matters.

Meaningful connections are about the amount of quality time and not the quantity of time. Keep it simple and connect with your child in ways that make sense for the relationship. Each time you have a connection with your child it has a lasting impact and provides support and assurance your child needs every day and time.

Before you shoot yourself for having mom guilt, here are ways you can create quality time with your family as a busy mom.

i. Intentionally spare some time

Considering how busy you may be, you have to be intentional when it comes to creating time for your family. Unless you’re outside the country, meet face to face. It is important they get to feel the connection and have some time alone with you doing something they love to do.

ii. Tell your children you love them daily

There’s nothing as good as a child who feels loved and cared for unconditionally. Always tell them how much they mean to you and how they make you feel. Regardless of how little time you spend together this assurance goes a long way.

iii. Show appreciation

As a mom, if your child completes or does his chores without being asked to ensure you recognize it with words of appreciation and encouragement.

iv. Laugh and do silly stuff together

It doesn’t hurt to goof around with your child. This makes them feel important and they get to create that bond with you. Don’t be too serious or your kids will end up fearing you and shunning away from you when it comes to playtime.

v. Pay full attention to your child

The day you’re planning to spend quality time with your child turn off or avoid technology as much as possible. Try not to text, answer calls, scroll through social media or watch television. To avoid all this you can have outdoor activities.

vi. Have a date night

This is the best way to spend time with your family. You can decide to go and have dinner or have a movie date at the cinemas. This will give you ample time to bond with them and have a great family day out.

vii. Read bedtime stories

You can create a routine or tradition of reading for your children bed time stories. By doing this, you get to engage with them and spend time with them. There’s no satisfying feeling in the world than seeing your children before they sleep and them seeing you.

viii. Have a sleepover

Yes! I know it sounds weird and funny owing to the fact you probably live under the same roof but you can have a family sleepover in the sitting room or decide to have the kids come to your room. This is good for bonding and having quality time together.

If you could travel back in time, who would you want to meet?
