Meghan Markle has been banned from wearing ripped jeans and wedges when she visits the Queen's summer retreat of Balmoral Castle, it has been claimed.

Her Majesty, 93, is said to "hate" the items of clothing "with a passion".

New parents Meghan, 38, and husband Prince Harry, 34, are rumoured to be making their first visit to the Scottish estate in the next few weeks with son, Archie.

But the former Suits actress will apparently not be packing her trusty denim trousers.

A royal source claimed to The Sun: “The Queen is no favourite of jeans so the US boyfriend look and ripped jeans will be left in Frogmore Cottage along with any wedges which her Majesty hates with a passion.”

Meghan is said to have in the past worn Barbour jackets, Muck Boots and black Hunter boots when in the countryside.

The source added: “It has been mentioned that Meghan could well be wearing a few Scottish designers whilst at Balmoral and for church appearances with the Queen."

Kensington Palace did not wish to comment.

Meanwhile, Meghan has frequently been pictured in her jeans, including last month when she went to watch close pal Serena Williams play at Wimbledon.

But even that caused a stir with The Times newspaper alleging that All England Club members were upset by the Duchess's attire as they claimed it was too casual.

One source told the newspaper: "She [Meghan] wanted to come incognito but there were problems.

"They couldn’t invite her into the royal box because she was wearing jeans but that didn’t really matter because all she wanted to do was come and watch Serena."

Another said the wearing of denim is frowned upon in members’ areas at Wimbledon and added: “She’s not allowed to wear jeans.”

When Meghan and Harry visit the Queen's summer retreat, they will reportedly be given their own wing and will enjoy afternoon tea with the Queen.

A source told the Sun on Sunday: “The Queen and Prince Philip adore the couple and, of course, their new great-grandson Archie, and they have invited them to Balmoral for a few days.

“It is testament to Meghan that she has been given this invite. It’s a huge honour.”

The Queen's trip to Balmoral is a pilgrimage she makes every year - escaping the hustle and bustle of London to retreat more than 500 miles away to spend the summer months.

She swaps her more formal attire for tweed while roaming the acres of land at her leisure, enjoys picnics with her family, and watches sack races which leaves her 'hooting with laughter.'

She has no official duties there - but she does usually attend the Braemar Gathering highland games - and the bolthole is "where she is most happiest."

The great-grandmother uses the summer break to relax with her family, including Kate and Wills, as they all put aside their busy schedules to enjoy each other's company at the castle, bought by Prince Albert for about Sh4 million (£32,000) in 1852.

Her Majesty has been seen chipping in with the washing up there, and Margaret Thatcher was so baffled by the Queen's habit of doing it with bare hands, she once reportedly sent her a pair of gloves.

Her granddaughter Princess Eugenie has described Balmoral as the "most beautiful place on earth" and spoken of how much the Queen loves the estate.

She said: “I think Granny is the most happy there. I think she really, really loves the Highlands.

“Walks, picnics, dogs – a lot of dogs, there are always dogs – and people coming in and out all the time.

“It’s a lovely base for Granny and Grandpa, for us to come and see them up there, where you just have room to breathe and run.”

The Royal Family is also known to enjoy games there, walks on the moors with the dogs, horse riding, shooting, fishing, cinema nights as well as black tie dinners.

However, Her Majesty has been forced to call off the whole grouse shooting season as there has been a drop in the number of the birds in the area due to insects and bad weather, reports the Express.

Prince Charles, William, Harry and Kate have all been known to go out shooting over the summer months, and last year they even took little George along to watch.

The news will be a blow to the family, who are all said to really enjoy shooting.

An insider told the Express: "There’s not much else to do at Balmoral and that’s why so many guests come. It’s a great shame."

However there's one member of the family who will probably be very pleased by the news - Meghan.

The Duchess is believed to be strongly against blood sports and reportedly wasn't happy about her husband taking part in the family's annual Boxing Day shoot at Sandringham.
