In this time of gift giving, why not give forgiveness?

The festive season is a time of new opportunity, a time of meditation, reflection and thanksgiving. Many see the season as a time to feast and experiment delicacies and celebration, a time to go on holiday, to catch up with friends and family a time to mingle and party.

The culture of giving is derived from the material gifting associated with the birth of Christ, reflected in scriptures. Three wise men saw the star, rejoiced with exceeding joy then they visited the young child, Jesus Christ born by Virgin Mary his mother.

They opened their treasures and presented unto him gifts: gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. Christians celebrate love, God’s greatest gift. This love is clearly articulated in the Bible, in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails.”

As you consider giving gifts this Christmas, consider giving a gift that needs no shopping and no money. This is the precious gift of love, the gift of unconditional positive regard and forgiveness. It costs nothing and is extremely valuable and precious to the giver and recipient.

Let go, and give the free gift this season for it is a gift that never fails. Most times, betrayal and past pain and experiences hold most captive and as a result, many are unable to exercise love and forgiveness as a result of their own pain and frustration.

Consider forgiveness as the perfect gift that you can give to yourself this season and give yourself permission to love and rejoice. You have every reason to hold on to forgiveness. Truth be told, the more you hold on to it the worse it gets. Let it go and ask God to give you a double portion of grace, peace and love.

The willingness to forgive is the first step to achieving victory. By choosing to forgive, you are simply taking care of the “self”. Choose to break the chains of bondage that have held you captive for too long and walk in freedom.

When you choose to forgive, you give away your overwhelming need for justice, let God be your judge, simply close the chapter and move on. The decision to forgive is personal and extremely liberating. This will help you get rid of anger, resentment and the desire to retaliate. This will help you open your heart to give and receive love. You will enjoy better and vibrant healthy relationships.

Make some precious memories this Christmas as you extend an olive branch and speak life in the lives of your loved ones. Sing a new song of love, praise and thanksgiving as you choose to love unconditionally because God loved us while we were yet sinners.

All your family and friends want from you is not expensive gifts, they need the good and perfect precious gift called love. Give it with excitement and enthuthiasm and experience a new level in your relationships.
