FIRST DATE
ESTHER: It was at Giraffe Ark Lodge in Mweiga. Though he had taken me for lunch before, this was a lunch with a different touch. It was my birthday week. We got to know each other better and that formed the start of our relationship.
THE PROPOSAL
ESTHER: I will never forget this day. Stan called me on a Friday evening and said he wanted us to meet his friend in Naivasha for a business talk...he wanted me to take part in the deal. We drove all the way to Naivasha from Karatina. He took me to Kongoni Lodge, Naivasha. We had a walk around the Oloiden camp site as we waited for his ‘business partner’ only for him at one point go down on one knee and propose. Out of nowhere, all my friends - about 10 of them - were there to congratulate me. Tears of joy rolled down my cheeks, I could not say no. How he had organised it with my friends still surprises me to date.
THE WEDDING
STAN: God has been faithful. We financed 95 per cent of our budget from our savings. We had a very dedicated event manager – our friend John Kariuki Njuguna. He helped me look for our service providers and they never let us down. The wedding was more than we expected. We thank God.
ADVICE
STAN: To couples who are planning a wedding – start planning early; plan a wedding that you can finance yourself. If friends comes in to assist, let it be from their own will and just an addition to your plans.
ESTHER: Make sure your best couple are your friends with whom you can connect and talk to with ease. Our best couples were just the best. To ladies getting married, it is your day. Help your man make it a success, even if it means helping him financially. I did.
MEMORABLE MOMENT
ESTHER: As parents escorted me towards the altar, the Church was packed and everyone was standing. Everyone was trying to catch a glimpse of me. Stan was waiting for me at the altar. It was a feeling I cannot explain.
STAN: When Esther said yes to my proposal. Plus the whole journey that culminated to our marriage, and the fact that all went well without hitches.
