I dumped her but now I want her back

Dear Coleen,

I’m 21 and my ex-girlfriend is 19. Our relationship was on the rocks for a while, but we really worked at it and we were making progress until I broke up with her for stupid reasons.

Now, a few months down the line, I completely regret the choice I made and want her back.

Here’s the tricky part – she said she still loves me but she won’t take me back. She says she wants time to herself. I’m not the clingy type, so I’m confused – is she saying she wants to be with me or not?

How can she love me and not want to be with me?

I’m sure lots of guys have this problem but I don’t know if I should try to win her back or back off and risk losing my perfect woman. I hope you can help.

Coleen says.

Here’s the thing – you broke it off with her and she’s gone through loads of heartache getting over you. Now you’ve suddenly decided you made a mistake and expect her to come running back into your arms.

She’s probably scared of getting back into a relationship only to have her heart broken again. She’s still young, but I think she’s being sensible. If I were you I’d back off and give her some time to decide if she does want to be with you or not.

These love games are complicated, but by putting pressure on her you’re just going to push her away. She has to realise you’re the one for her.
