Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union join transgender daughter, Zaya, for her red carpet debut

Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union were every inch the proud parents when they joined his transgender daughter for her red carpet debut.

Zaya, 12, stole the show when the family attended the Truth Awards together in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

The former Miami Heat star, 38, announced last month that his daughter had come out as trans and wanted to be called Zaya as he vowed to support her on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.

And he made good on his promise last night as the trio posed for photos together at the event, which is held to celebrate the achievements of the black LGBT community.

Zaya looked stylish in a neon green blazer with a matching shirt and tie.

She teamed it with high waisted suit trousers that had an eye-catching pink sash around the hips.

Pulling the look together with heeled boots and glasses, Zaya oozed confidence on the red carpet.

The basketball player donned a black and white suit with a bright pink shirt underneath, the same colour as the sash on Zaya's trousers.

Gabrielle wore a similar outfit but rocked a bright green bralet underneath to match Zaya's shirt and blazer.

Dwyane, who shares Zaya with his ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, opened up about her transition last month.

"Me and my wife Gabrielle Union are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community, and we're proud allies as well," Wade told Ellen DeGeneres.

"We take our roles and responsibility as parents very seriously.

"Zion, born as a boy, came home and said, 'Hey, so I want to talk to you guys. I think going forward I am ready to live my truth. I want to be referenced as 'she' and 'her.' I would love for you guys to call me Zaya.

"So when our child comes home with a question, when our child comes home with an issue, when our child comes home with anything, it's our job as parents to listen to that and give them the best information that we can, the best feedback that we can.

"And that doesn't change because sexuality is now involved in it."

Union then took to Twitter to introduce Zaya, writing: "Meet Zaya. She's compassionate, loving, whip smart and we are so proud of her. It's Ok to listen to, love & respect your children exactly as they are.

"Love and light good people."
