Thandiwe Newton has revealed that she is now professionally using the 'w' in her name.
The Westworld actress, 48, is on the eye-catching cover of the May issue of British Vogue which hails "The Rebirth of an Icon".
Thandiwe, born Melanie Thandiwe "Thandie" Newton, spoke to writer Diana Evans for the magazine twenty years on and discussed where in her career she had progressed and what has and has not changed in the industry.
The actress also revealed that she would return to crediting her name with Thandiwe after an mistake on her first credit listed her as Thandie Newton.
She told the magazine of finally using Thandiwe: "That’s my name. It's always been my name. I'm taking back what’s mine."
Thandiwe also discussed why she recently chose to speak up about abuse that she had experienced in the past.
The Vogue piece reads: "'There’s a moment where the ghost of me changed, you know,' she says thoughtfully, zoning back in time, eyes hardened, 'and it was then, it was 16. He derailed me from myself utterly. I was traumatised. It was a kind of PTSD for sure.'"
She added: "I was so distraught and appalled that a director had abused a young actress, and that it was happening elsewhere, minors getting abused and how f**ked up it was.
"'I was basically waiting for someone to come along and say, 'Well, what shall we do about this?'"
The actress now states that she has a "seventh sense" for abuse and abusers and cites this as the reason for some past rejections in Hollywood.
Thandiwe also details what it has been like for her with daughter Nico Parker, 16, entering into the same industry as herself, having appeared in films such as Dumbo and The Third Day.
On accompanying Nico to every photoshoot, Thandiwe said: "If there was an issue with the photographer, if there was any appropriate language I was on it, I didn't give a f**k what anyone thought."
She added: "When it was time for her to get an agent, I spent a month auditioning for one, even though I knew half of them."
Thandiwe is one protective mother!
She shares son Ripley, 20, daughter Nico and seven-year-old son Booker with her husband, filmmaker Ol Parker.
