Meghan Markle made a series of shocking claims during her interview with Oprah Winfrey - saying she was suicidal during her time in the royal family, accusing her in-laws of being concerned about how dark Archie's skin would be and claiming the Duchess of Cambridge made her cry.

But she also spoke about how much she liked and respected the Queen and revealed the gender of her unborn baby.

The highly anticipated interview saw the Duchess of Sussex and her husband Prince Harry lift the lid on life behind Palace walls and make several shocking allegations about their family.

Filmed at one of their friends' homes not far from their Californian mansion, the two-hour programme was filmed before they were stripped of their royal patronages.

It featured an adorable home video of Archie playing on the beach and Meghan's growing baby bump could be clearly seen.

We've taken a look at some of the biggest bombshells from the historical interview.

Meghan admits having suicidal thoughts

Meghan spoke honestly about her mental health and said she had suicidal thoughts during her time in the royal family.

She told Oprah she "didn't want to be alive anymore" and when asked directly if she was thinking of self-harm and having suicidal thoughts at some stage, Meghan replied "yes".

She says Harry "cradled her" when she told him, and he later admitted it send him to a "dark place".

Meghan claims she asked the palace to seek professional help, and said she no longer had access to personal effects such as her passport after joining the family.

However she says she was told she couldn't get help.

Conversations about Archie's skin tone

One of the most shocking lines from the interview was a claim that Harry had to have "conversations" within the royal household about how dark Archie's skin might have been before he was born.

Meghan refused to say who the conversations had been with, saying it would be "very damaging to them", but said it happened numerous times.

When he joined the interview later, Harry said he would never reveal details of the conversations.

Kate made Meghan cry

Following numerous reports that Meghan made the Duchess of Cambridge cry during a bridesmaid dress fitting in the lead up to the royal wedding, Meghan claimed it was actually the other way around.

Meghan said she has now forgiven Kate, saying that she's a "good person".

She says that Kate gave her flowers to apologise for the incident.

Meghan says that the incident was a "turning point" in terms of her time in the royal family.

Harry 'let down' by Charles and says he was cut off financially

Harry spoke about his relationship with his father, saying he felt 'let down' and a "lot of a hurt" has happened.

He claims that as Charles has "been through something similar" he knows what the pain is like.

Harry said that he will always love his dad but admitted a lot has happened.

He also claimed that the family have cut him off financially and said his and Meghan's new life is only possible because of his inheritance from Princess Diana.

Harry said Charles stopped taking his calls after he stepped down from his royal duties.

Meghan and Harry got married before royal wedding

The couple revealed that they actually married in secret three days before their royal wedding.

Meghan said that nobody knew, but they had decided they wanted to make their vows privately and away from the millions of people who tuned in to watch live on the day.

They called the Archbishop of Canterbury and asked him if they could do it before, and he agreed.

Harry claims Charles and William are 'trapped'

The Duke admitted that he probably wouldn't have quit the royal family if it hadn't been for Meghan, saying he was "trapped" in the system.

He said his dad and brother "are trapped" and "don't get to leave".

Baby Sussex is a girl - and due in the summer

Meghan and Harry shared the lovely news that they are having a baby girl.

They announced the pregnancy last month with a beautiful black and white photo, but used the interview to reveal the gender.

When Meghan walked over to the seats where they were doing the interview, Oprah commented on her beautiful growing bump and asked if they knew if it was a girl or a boy.

She said she would wait until Harry joined her to share the news, and the couple looked delighted when the later revealed Archie is going to have a little sister.

They didn't give an exact due date but said Meghan is due in the summer.
