Covid-19: 432 recover as Kenya records 323 new cases

Kenya has so far administered 3,600,187 vaccines across the country, the Ministry of Health has announced.

Of these, the total first doses were 2,713,427 while the second doses were 886,187.

The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is 32.7 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 3.3 per cent.

The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 253,920, others 288,609, Health Workers 141,069, Teachers 128,633 while Security Officers are at 74,529.

Covid-19 numbers

Kenya also recorded 323 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 5,606 raising the country's caseload to 248,392.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 5.8 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 2,533,467.

Out of the new patients, 156 are male, whereas 167 are female, with the youngest carrier being a two-month-old infant, and the oldest aged 104.

Of the new cases, six are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nandi leads with 71 cases, Nairobi 41, Nakuru 30, Nyeri 22, Makueni 14, Kajiado 13, Kiambu 12, Kisii and Mombasa 11 cases each, Embu and Siaya 8 cases each, Murangá 7, Garissa 6, Bomet, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Machakos, Kakamega and Uasin Gishu 5 cases each, Marsabit, Isiolo, Bungoma, Nyandarua, Kitui and Busia 4 cases each, Meru 3, Samburu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot and Kwale 2 cases each, Baringo 1, Homa Bay, Turkana and Kericho one case each.

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 5,096 after 14 patients succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Total recoveries now stand at 239,730 after 432 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 387 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 45 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 193,812 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 45,918 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,220 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 2,694 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Ninety-two (92) patients are in the ICU, 52 of whom are on ventilatory support and 40 on supplemental oxygen. No patients are on observation.

Another 375 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 361 of them in general wards and 14 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
