Covid-19: Less than one per cent vaccinated,18 more succumb, Ministry says

About one per cent of Kenya’s adult population has been fully vaccinated, the Ministry of Health says.

In today's Covid-19 update, CS Mutahi Kagwe said the Ministry had administered a total of 1,005,509 vaccines across the country. This is out of a total population of over 50 million.

Of these, he explained that the total first doses are 978,127 while the second doses are 27,382. This means that only 27,382 people have received the full Covid-19 vaccine dose.

The Ministry said 18 people are reported to have succumbed to Covid-19, bringing the country’s total fatalities to 3,326. However, the deaths did not occur in the last 24 hours.

“They are late deaths reported after conducting facility record audits on diverse dates in the month of April and May,” Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said.

This even as 433 more people tested positive for the virus from a sample size of 4,479 tested in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate recorded today is at 9.7 per cent.

This brings the total confirmed positive cases to 173,072 and cumulative tests so far conducted 1,840,889.

Kisumu County is still leading in the number of new infections after recording 129 more cases today.

Nairobi had 84 cases, Siaya 24, Mombasa 24, Trans Nzoia 23, Kericho 21 as the other counties posted less than 20 new cases each.

On the contrary, 395 patients have recovered from the disease, 262 from the home-based care and isolation program while 133 are from various health facilities across the country.

Total recoveries now stand at 118,621 of whom 86,154 are from home-based care and isolation program, while 32,467 are from various health facilities across the country.
