19 die of Covid as more people are vaccinated

Nineteen people have succumbed to Covid-19 in Kenya in the last 24 hours.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has confirmed the fatalities in a statement on the status of the coronavirus in the country as of April 16, 2021.

The death toll is now at 2,443.

Another 1,041 cases have also been confirmed from a 7,753 sample size tested in the last 24 hours.

According to the CS, “the youngest case is two years old and the oldest is 93 years.”

Kenya now has a total of 150,260 confirmed Covid-19 cases since the onset of the disease last year March, and 1,592,484 cumulative tests conducted.

Some 342 patients have recovered from the disease. Two hundred and seventeen of those were under the Home Based Care programme and one hundred and twenty-six patients were discharged from various health facilities.

There are now 100, 980 recoveries in total.

Similarly, 1,588 patients are admitted in helath facilities across the country. The Health Ministry says 5,757 patients remain on Home Based Isolation and Care.

“As of today, 260 patients are in ICU, twelve in HDU, 47 on ventilatory support, 164 on supplemental oxygen, 49 on observation while 246 others are on supplementary Oxygen. A further 234 patients are in general ward,” Kagwe said.

Vaccination

So far, 651,650 people have received the AstraZeneca vaccine since the exercise kicked off over a month ago.

Yesterday, a total of 28,234 doses were administered.

The Ministry added that 365,178 people aged 58 and above have received the Covid jab, while men account for 56 per cent of the total population of people already vaccinated.

Nairobi County has utilised the highest number of doses with 207,926 persons already vaccinated.
