NAIROBI, KENYA: Health fraternity will yet mark another milestone in fight against HIV with launch of MYT4CD4 test kit in Nairobi on Thursday.
MyT4 CD4 is the fastest CD4 test available, with a 10-minute time to result that allows patients to be tested and receive results during a single clinic visit.
The test currently used in Africa (POC CD4) has a 20 minute time-to-result. MyT4 CD4 cuts this time-to result in half so an operator can provide CD4 results for twice as many patients in one day.
In the swap system often used with POC diagnostics, the end-user at the clinic or lab is required to send the broken unit back to a central location in the capital city for repair, at their own expense, before they are provided with a new unit; with the MyT4 CD4 replacement system the end-user receives a new unit immediately without the delay or cost of swapping in the old unit.
MyT4 CD4 has a very low cost to start or switch from existing platforms.
Instrument based CD4 tests require high CAPEX investment to adopt the system ($6500 for POC or $27,000 for flow cytometry).
The MyT4 CD4 Accessory is about 10 times less than the capital investment required for other POC CD4, so with the same funding, a healthcare system can provide CD4 testing at 10 times as many sites – with MyT4’s high throughput at every site.
