Belching is a normal body process, but one many people find embarrassing.
Belching or burping occurs when the gas in the digestive tract is released through the mouth. When you belch, the excess air in the abdomen is let out hence bringing relief.
Some people also belch instinctively to expunge discomfort in their stomach due to excess air.
One of the major causes of belching is eating too fast, drinking carbonated beverages such as soft drinks, champagne or beer. Carbonated drinks contain gas that is released once you drink them.
There are also certain disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease which may also trigger involuntary burping.
There are also some eating habits that may cause burping to signal that one has completed a meal.
To get rid of belching, eat slowly and in small portions. This reduces the swallowing of excess gas, which can lead to belching. Also avoid chewing gum.
People who have excessive belching should avoid taking alcohol. Reducing stress levels and relaxing also helps.
Keep away from some types of foods such as milk and sugary diets, fruits and vegetables like onions, apricots, prunes, sprouts, bananas, lentils, cabbages and beans also lead to belching. This is because starchy foods are not properly digested by the stomach, but are instead effective tools in treating bacteria.
Note: To get rid of belching, it is important to identify the root cause of the problem. Treatment may involve changing your diet or taking medication as prescribed by a doctor.
