Kenya on Monday, July 5 recorded 185 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 2,047 raising the country's caseload to 186,053.
In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 9.0 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 1,983,998.
Out of the new patients, 112 are male, whereas 73 are female, with the youngest carrier aged five, and the oldest aged 91.
Of the new cases, 14 are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.
Distribution
In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi recorded 94, Bungoma 25, Mombasa 16, Machakos 11, Kakamega 7, Tana River 5, Kilifi 5, Kiambu 4, Homa Bay, Kajiado, Nakuru 3 cases each, Murang’a and Kericho 2 cases each, Kisii, Kwale, Makueni, Meru and Tharaka Nithi 1 case each.
In terms of sub-county distribution, the 94 cases in Nairobi are from Embakasi West and Ruaraka (9) cases each, Makadara and Roysambu (7) cases each, Dagoretti South, Starehe and Mathare (6) cases each, Kamukunji and Westlands (5) cases each, Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central, Langata and Kasarani (4) cases each, Kibra, Embakasi South and Embakasi North (3) cases each.
In Bungoma County, the 25 cases are from Kimilili (10), Mt Elgon (5), Webuye and West and Webuye East (4), Kabuchai and Tongaren (1) case each.
Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,690 after 15 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.
The total recoveries so far stand at 128,811 after 1,186 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 1,102 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 84 are from various health facilities in the country.
Of the total recoveries, 93,391 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 35,420 are from various hospitals countrywide.
A total of 1,151 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 5,426 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
One hundred and nineteen (119) patients are in the ICU, 33 of whom are on ventilatory support and 47 on supplemental oxygen. Thirty-nine (39) patients are on observation.
Another 182 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 161 of them in general wards and 21 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
Vaccination
Kenya has by July 5, 2021, administered 1,477,916 vaccines across the country of which the first doses are 1,018,143 while the second doses are 459,773.
The uptake of the second dose by Priority Groups is as follows: Aged 58 years and above 142,676, Others 128,004, Health Workers 90,954, Teachers 62,724 while Security Officers are at 35,415.
The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose is at 45.2 per cent with the majority being males at 55 per cent while females are at 45 per cent. The proportion of adults fully vaccinated is 1.77 per cent.
