Eight people die of Covid-19 as Kisumu records most daily cases

 The Ministry of Health has reported eight more deaths and 469 new infections. [File, Standard]

Eight people have succumbed to Covid-19 today, Tuesday, May 18, as Kisumu county leads in the number of new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.

The total number of fatalities now stands at 3,021.

This comes as 469 more people test positive for the virus, from a sample size of 6, 244. The positivity rate recorded is 7.5 per cent.

Of the newly infected patients, 363 are Kenyans and 106 others are foreigners. This brings the total caseload to 166, 006.

“From the new cases, 280 are male while the other 189 are female,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Out of the ordinary, most of the new cases were from Kisumu county which had 102 new patients as Nairobi which has been recording most cases recorded only 77 cases.

The other counties had less than 30 cases each in the last 24 hours.

Gladly, 43 more patients have recovered from the virus, 29 from home-based care and isolation while 14 were discharged from various health facilities across the country.

“The total recoveries are now at 113, 917; 82, 806 were on home-based care and isolation and 31, 111 were from various health facilities,” read the statement in part.
