Covid-19: Kenya records 572 cases, 18 deaths in last 24 hours

Kenya has recorded 572 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising the country's caseload to 163,238.

The Health ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the new infections were discovered in 4,626 samples taking to the cumulated tests conducted so far to1.715,038.

Following the latest release, Kenya’s positivity rate now stands at 12.4 per cent

Out of the new patients, 354 are male, whereas 218 are female, with the youngest carrier aged eight months and the oldest aged 97.

Of the new cases, 46 are foreigners, while the rest were Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi recorded 148 cases, Kisumu 46, Kericho 36, Bungoma 26, Mombasa 25, Taita Taveta 23, Migori 23, Nyamira 22, Nakuru 21, Uasin Gishu 20, Turkana 15, Kiambu 15, Siaya 11, Meru 11, Baringo, Bomet, Kajiado 10 cases each, Nandi 9, Narok and Mandera 8 cases each, Nyeri, Kitui Trans Nzoai, Busia and Embu 7 cases each, Makueni 6, Machakos 5, Kisii and Homa Bay 4 cases each, Vihiga, Marsabit, Kakamega 3 cases each, Elegeyo Marakwet, Isiolo and Muranga 2 cases each, Tana River, Kwale and Garissa a case each.

Kenya recorded 476 new recoveries, pushing the number of healed patients to 111, 129.

Out of the new recoveries, 257 had been admitted to various hospitals, while 3219 were under home-based care.

So far, recoveries recorded among patients in the home-based arrangement are 80,535 whereas those who had to undergo hospital treatment are 30,594

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 2,883 on Saturday after 18 were confirmed dead in the last 24 hours.

A total of 1,103 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 6,295 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and thirty-one (131) patients are in the ICU, 26 of whom are on ventilatory support and 80 on supplemental oxygen. Twenty-five (25) patients are on observation.

Another 107 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 99 of them in general wards and eight (0) in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has as of today, vaccinated 915, 968 against the Covid-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 534,355 are aged 58 years and above together with others, Health workers are 160,862, Teachers 143,355 while security officers 77,226.
