Covid-19: 38 in ICU, 14 die as Kenya records 836 new cases

Kenya has 38 Covid-19 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has recorded 836 new positive cases in the past 24 hours raising the country's total caseload to 50, 833.

In a statement sent to media houses by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) said the new cases are from 4,076 samples which push the country’s cumulative tests to 666, 122.

In terms of gender, 618 are male and 218 are female while the youngest case is four-month-old and the oldest is aged 89.

Of the new cases, 822 are Kenyans while 14 are foreigners.

On a positive note, 403 patients recovered with 250 on the home-based care programme while 153 were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 34, 832.

On a sad note, Kagwe said 14 patients have succumbed to the disease bringing Kenya’s fatalities to 934.

Out of the 38 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 15 are on ventilatory support while 16 are on supplemental oxygen.

In the supplementary Oxygen, the country has 61 patients 36 of whom are general wards while 25 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU)

A total of 1,150 are admitted in various health facilities while 3,961 are in the Home-based Isolation and Care.

Distribution

In the county distribution, Nairobi leads with 556 cases, Uasin Gishu 68, Mombasa 62 and Kiambu 32, Nakuru 24, Laikipia 22, Kajiado 12, Machakos 8, Kisumu 7, Murang'a 7, Meru 6, Nandi 5, Trnas Nzoia 4, Turkana 4, Elgeyo Marakwet 3, Kisii 3, Baringo 2, Narok 2, Kakamega 2, Wajir 2, Nyandarua 1, Samburu 1, Kilifi 1, Siaya 1 and Homabay 1.

In Nairobi County, the cases were reported in Lang'ata (295), Kibra (43), Westlands (31), Embakasi Central (22), Dagoretti North (21), Makdara (18).In Nakuru, the 85 cases are fromNaivasha (21), Nakuru East (20), Nakuru West (16), Rongai (6), Njoro and Subukia (4) cases each, Gilgil (2) and Molo (1).

In Uasin Gishu, the 68 cases are from Ainabkoi (52), Turbo (11),  Kesses and Soy (2) cases each and Kapseret (1).
