Kenya has this afternoon received 252,000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
The vaccines landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) shortly after 1.00 pm, and received by officials from the Health Ministry.
The latest consignment was procured directly by the government from the Covax facility, and arrived on Wednesday aboard Emirates Airline.
The J and J is a single-shot vaccine.
The vaccine went into Phase III trials as a one-dose vaccine because earlier phase trials had shown strong immune responses after just one dose.
Health Ministry has said that Kenya has so far received 389,600 of the 13 million doses expected.
The Chair of the Covi-19 Vaccine Deployment Taskforce Dr Willis Akhwale said that the government hopes to vaccinate 5.8 million Kenyans by October 20.
So far, 3,935,671 vaccines have been administered countrywide, making up 3.5 per cent of the adult population fully vaccinated.
Close to 6.4 million vaccines have been received, by way of donations from various countries and through Covax.
