Kenyan musicians, producers, directors and players in the music industry will once again be celebrated at this year's Pulse Music Video Awards (PMVA). Now in its eighth edition, everything is gearing up to the awards gala that will happen on December 16.

This year's PMVAs is bigger and better.

Last Friday, the Standard Media Group in conjunction with EABL's Kenya Cane brand officially launched PMVAs 2022. This year's awards are labelled PMVA - The Greats.

Celebrating the greats in the industry has been one of the focus of the awards. The seventh edition saw Redsan receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, the first of its kind.

"This stands to show how legends who have been paving way for the young ins are appreciated. We grew up with Pulse and this comes as not only a surprise, but a big honour. We hope to continue supporting each other as we have always done," said Redsan before giving a stellar performance earlier this year.

This time round, the edition focuses on celebrating and appreciating diverse talents in the industry.

The awards will have seven new slots, which will include different talents from different regions. This is in a bid to bring inclusivity and celebrate Kenya's music and cultural diversity.

Now we are making a call for submission. Submissions of videos in all these categories can be made through the PMVA website www.standardmedia.co.ke/pmva.

The deadline for submission is November 27.

The judges will give the list of the final nominees before the lines are opened for the public to vote for their favourites.

This year's awards have been christened PMVA - The Spirit of Kenya - The Heart Beat of Entertainment.

The PMVAs bring the best and have become a staple award show in Kenya's showbiz scene.

Launched in 2015, PMVAs a brainchild of Pulse Magazine has matured into the industry gold standard for celebrating the best work in music videos from Kenya and parts of Africa.

Reviewing the past years of PMVA winners shows a quick guide to the evolution of Kenyan music, the power dynamics, radically changing trends and the fall of certain talents and genre.

And in all those years, PMVA has remained consistent in rewarding ingenuity.
