Signs your relationship is moving too fast

Sometimes a relationship can move too fast, by the time you figure out what is happening, you are stuck in an irreversible situation - mostly an unwanted pregnancy. That happens when the woman is too desperate and the man cares less about the direction. You bet many marriages happened by accident.

The whole of last week, Cindy was away, taking care of her personal businesses. That gave you an opportunity to examine your priorities in life. You have been sympathetic towards Cindy’s dramatic past.

As a therapist, you have done a terrific job. She now updates everything she is up to. And occasionally sends you those WhatsApp jokes, may be a week too late, but you laugh all the same for her effort.

Her being away means you have been idle the whole week. And an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. That is how you decide to pay your beautiful neighbour a visit after blacking her out of your life for a whole month. You have scarcely seen her, neither has she even been part of your conversation with Cindy.

She ushers you in on a warm Wednesday evening. She is in an extremely provocative short nightdress, and exudes an unusual radiance that you have never seen in her. She is always the sulking type, with a face that belies a mind that weighing a million things all at once. Not this evening.

“A miracle you have found your way to my house,” she starts, “watu wakipendana, wanasahau marafiki...”

There is thinly veiled sarcasm in that ‘watu wakipendana’. Her wink is telling that she does not approve the turn things took ever since she hooked you up. Maybe she thought she was just throwing you off her back, you sleep with Cindy, dump her and carry on with your life.

“Ha! Ha!” you laugh nonchalantly. “What have you been up to this rainy season?” you ask her.

“Nothing much, just me, my series, and my teddy bear...”

There is something in that tone too. You can’t pin it down. How you wish women communicated their feelings in black and white.

So you make yourself comfortable on the sofa and she sits on the armrest away from you. So you look at her, as she struggles with little success to fit into her nightdress. Small talk, here and there and tonight she is so chatty, and forthcoming.

Anyway, about her boyfriend in Germany; he was to come this Christmas for a visit, but he has pushed it to sometime next year. Their wedding arrangement has hit a snag, but she insists that it will take place, but you notice this time around, she is not as optimistic as she was before.

And not overly defensively as before. Why the thawing? It is your turn to update her from your side with Cindy. And she goes with a leading question that betrays her completely.

“You two seem to get along so well, you should have met sooner,”

“Sure she is a great woman...” you say, feeling boxed into a corner.

“So you guys are officially going out. Weuwe!” It is not so much a question as an exclamation. “Not too fast, come on...,” you say.

“I do think you guys moved too fast, you should slow down you get to know each other,” she says, again there is a thinly veiled warning there...

“Tell me, I think I know Cindy well enough to make a decision...” You say.

“Yeah right! You think!
