Meghan Markle's heartbreaking final regret about leaving royal family with Prince Harry

Meghan Markle admitted she has one regret from her decision to quit the royal family with Prince Harry - believing they would be protected.

In her historical interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were asked about their decision to step back from their senior roles last year.

They were asked if they had any regrets about their decision and the way it was handled, and Harry said he didn't, adding that he was really proud of what they had done.

However Meghan admitted there was one thing she would change.

She said she regrets believing promises that their family would be protected, saying that has not happened.

She claims that had she known she would have "been able to do more".

Harry previously spoke about their decision to step down from their senior royal roles when he was interviewed by James Corden on the Late Late Show.

When James asked why they decided to quit, Harry quickly corrected him, saying "It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down.”

Speaking about their decision, he said: "It was a really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like.

"It was destroying my mental health. I was like, this is toxic.

"So I did what any husband and any father would do, I need to get my family out of here. But we never walked away.

"As far as I'm concerned, whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away.

"I will always be contributing. But my life is service, so wherever I am in the world it's always going to be the same thing."

The couple announced their plans to step down by posting a message on Instagram in January 2020.

They reportedly only sent their message to the royal family 10 minutes before posting it online, leaving Charles and William furious.

After working out the logistics they officially stepped down in March for a year-long trial period of their new 'Megxit' deal.

Earlier this week Buckingham Palace released a statement to say the Queen had contacted Meghan and Harry to make the new arrangement permanent, and also revealed they would be losing their royal patronages.
