Keeping your relationship intact amidst the tests of lockdown

Coronavirus pandemic has paralyzed things left, right and center. Whereas I won't delve into its origin and health angle, coronavirus has, in one way or another, hugely impacted relationships.

According to reports lately, indeed, relationships are being strained in newer ways. Considering the lockdown measures taken to curb the spread of COVID-19, partners are finding themselves with either more time together or time apart.

Here are ways you can ride above the tide during this challenging season and have a prosperous relationship

Talk about your anxieties

Tension is everywhere and you may feel your stress levels rising. With the increasing number of job losses or pay cuts coupled with concerns of infection, be sure to voice how you feel about these to your partner.

Not only will both of you feel like you're not alone, you'll also analyse what is within your control and dissolve the fears together.

Review your financial budget

Your financial situation may take a blow rendering you off balance. Communicate with your partner about your current lifestyle and check on what you should withhold investing in or spending on.

If you used to eat out and your favorite joint is closed, consider what to do with the money you used to allocate to that. As a result, the tension from strained finances often rubbing on your relationship will be dealt with beforehand.

Shelve some major plans

Many had planned on holidays and visits to different parts of the globe. With flights cancelled and borders closed, you'll have to talk about the plans you've shelved and what to do with the time you'll have in your hands.

You can make it an open talk with your partner on finding ways of reducing stress levels in both of you.

Investing in something major like a business sale should also encourage you to communicate more with your partner lest personal decisions affect your union.

Do something fun

Lockdown may be creating more opportunities for you and your family to spend time together. Get creative and do something fun with your partner.

You could get your board games back on the table. Try creating a kitchen garden, or making a pen. Learn an instrument and go down memory lane. There's a whole load of activities to do and indulge in, which can connect you two.

Take advantage of technology

If you are apart from your partner physically, especially if they are in different towns, technology must be your best friend. Make use video calls and other communication channels to check on your loved one from time to time. Through this, you can maintain the connection and keep the spark going.

This lockdown need not be an all gloomy experience for you. A little creativity and communication will ensure your love keeps burning.
