There is no denying how much fun online gaming is. Whether you’re a sucker for strategy games, shooter games or battle royale multi-player games, online gaming is much more than it used to be.

Nowadays we can communicate during the games with players on the other side of the world without crossing physical borders.

Unfortunately, online gaming does not have restrictions in interactions meaning your child can play with anyone.

And now, online learning has also become a norm especially due to COVID-19.

However, parents can merely control the activities conducted through online gaming and learning yet it’s up to them to understand how these things work in order to protect your children from online predators. For this reason, most parents are very skeptical when it comes to online gaming and learning as they have very little control on who interacts with their kids and what they are exposed to.

To help put your mind at ease, below are some parenting tips about online learning and gaming you should be aware of.

Employ control gaming

Gaming is so diverse meaning that you have to somehow control the platform for your children. As a parent, it’s important that you employ controlled gaming, which means, knowing your kid’s gaming friends, the games they play, how to make their accounts private and setting time restrictions on their gaming.

A good way to go about it would be to make sure you are the one accepting any friend requests on their online platforms in order to keep people with bad intentions away.

Show interest in their games

For you to be able to understand and control what your children do, you need to understand the gaming world. Also, they might enjoy playing with you and this is a great way to bond and keep unwanted friends away.

On the other side, you might be nurturing a talent. These days being a gamer can be a career so allow them to explore this option if they are really into it.

Ensure collective lessons

With online classroom platforms it’s easy for a child to get carried away by the subjects they enjoy and neglect the ones they don’t like. To avoid this, make sure you know their timetable. This will help you ensure that they attend all the classes and get to monitor them during the online classes.

Teach them to communicate

Teach your child to communicate with you in case they have a challenge with their games or studies and also if they receive communication from people they don’t know. This is the best way to keep dangerous people away.

Avoid using shared internet

Using shared internet with your neighbors might put you at risk for hacking. This might put your personal information at risk too. The technology gurus can second me on this one. One of the main ways hackers are able to access your data is through public WiFi.

Have a timetable

Control the gaming time and study time and monitor them. Children are cheeky and off course they will always want to play. Ensure they always log out of the gaming platform and don’t share the password with your child. If possible, use different devices for the two activities – learning and gaming. You can have their PlayStation or Xbox connected to the TV and let them use a tablet or laptop for their online classes.
