12 suspects charged in Sh69m Nairobi-Nakuru Highway theft

ELDORET: Twelve suspects including a police officer have so far been arraigned in court for being involved in theft of goods on transit along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

Tuesday, Kevin Kimutai Kibet was arraigned before Nakuru Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo linked with the theft of Sh69 million worth of goods belonging to Golden Gate Company in Salgaa on July 15.

Kimutai denied the charges. The prosecution applied to consolidate the cases facing 11 others.

The suspects facing similar charges include Peter Gachie Matiru, Wilson Muthaura, Francis Mungao and Anthony Macharia who were released on bond.

Gachie’s brother Eliud Waititu and his wife Elizabeth Wambui have also been charged as police continue with investigations. On Monday, Godfrey Kipkosgei, also linked to the robbery, denied the charges before Senior Principal magistrate Liz Gicheha and was released on a Sh1 million bond or Sh300,000 cash bail.

Titus Kiplagat, Abdi Fara and Abdishukri Alinur were allegedly robbed of a Mitsubishi lorry loaded with computers, mobile phones and clothes valued at Sh69,641,702.
