George Opiata Ogada (pictured above) became a topic of discussion in villages in Homa Bay County when he decided to vie for an MCA seat in this year's elections.In 2013, Ogada, 63, vied for the Homa Bay governor but lost to the outgoing governor Cyprian Awiti.Prior to that Ogada vied Mbita parliamentary seat in 2007 but lost to the late Otieno Kajwang'.
In 1997, Ogada ran for the Nakuru Town parliamentary seat but he lost. After vying for the two parliamentary seats and governor position, people considered Ogada a high-profile politician who could not contest for a lower seat. But Ogada has surprised many people by going for MCA seat in the just-concluded General Election. He vied for the Rusinga Island ward in Suba North Constituency on the Vibrant Democratic Party ticket.
The Nairobian caught up with the Ogada to find out why he decided to go for a lower seat. He said he had been motivated by the desire to serve the people, adding that an MCA seat is an important position that enables a person to serve.
