A total of 22 sub-branches go to the polls today in a move that is expected to open the way for the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) electoral process to finally come to an end. When the elections kicked off on December 4, the 22 sub-branches did not vote due to various reasons, chief among them the lack of a register and disagreement over the eligibility of clubs.
The two issues have since been resolved in a way to pave way for the conclusion of the process. After the sub-branch elections, the branch elections will be held on December 18 and the national elections set for December 22.
BRANCH ELECTIONS
All the leading candidates for the chairman’s post will be watching keenly as to how the remaining sub-branch elections will go considering that it is here that delegates who will take part in branch elections will vote.
Those who will be elected at the branch level will then vote for the chairman and other top officials of the federation at the national level. From the 62 sub-branch elections, of which only 41 were declared valid for the rest are under appeal, Nick Mwendwa’s Team Change won majority of the seats.
Elsewhere, the electoral board has released the voter register to be used in today’s exercise. North Eastern, who were left out will now take part with two sub-branches expected to vote. A total of eight clubs will vote in Dadaab and 20 in Garissa. A total of 24 teams will vote at the Kirinyaga sub-branch.
Here, seven positions will be contested for. Only the vice-chairman’s positions will not be contested. Three sub-branches under Upper Eastern – Moyale, Isiolo and Marsabit will take part in the polls.
WARRING FACTIONS
Two sub-branches under the North Rift Branch – Nandi South and Uasin Gishu will also go to the polls with 62 clubs taking part. A total of 29 clubs will vote in Tana River, which falls under the North Coast Branch.
