Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has said Kenyans have misinterpreted the laptops for standard one program as was envisioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He said the debate has been narrowed down to the 'type of devises' to be used, thus ignoring the bigger picture of empowering the children for holistic learning.

Matiangi said reducing the president's vision to mere devises is 'retrogressive and reductive' as the gadgets are just a means of delivering a bigger mandate.

"His vision is to transform the learning ecosystem so that children can learn on digital platform. Reducing the vision it to devises is unfair and unrealistic," said Matiangi.

The CS said the debate on ICT integration in schools must now be how teachers are prepared, how the curriculum is organized and how learning is delivered on a digital platform.

"That is the wholesome transformation in learning that the president talked about," he said.

"No one is going to employ an analogue worker. We are happy with Kenyatta University and Mount Kenya University that have embraced ICT through their Virtual campuses. That is where to go," said Matiangi. The CS was speaking yesterday during the launch of Samsung Smart School at Starehe Boys Center.
