Wrist Wraps have become a must-have gym accessory and it is not uncommon to see women and men alike using them when strength training.

However, are they strictly necessary for the average gym goer?

Are you lifting heavy weights?

If the answer to this is no, then you do not need wrist wraps. Weights help strengthen your muscles and using wraps for lighter weights means you are hindering strength and growth gains.

Are you doing many repetitions?

Unless you are lifting in the 1-4 rep range, the weights you are lifting are probably light enough that you can train unaided without injury.

Do you have problems with your grip?

Especially when training bigger muscles, you may find your grip strength not sufficient to hold on to the weights you need. In this case, wraps can help you increase the weight you carry.

Are you doing bodyweight exercises?

In this case, wrist wraps are not necessary unless you have an injury.

Do you use them for every exercise?

Under no circumstances should wraps be used for every single workout. They will create weakness in your wrists which will ultimately lead to injury.
