Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to launch their own set of awards to reward individuals, charities and companies, reports claim.

The new awards are set to rival the Queen's honours list and will celebrate those the couple feel champion their favourite causes.

Court documents seen by The Sun state that Meghan and Harry's awards will focus on stand-out players in particular fields.

The awards, which will be run by the couple's Archewell foundation, will run alongside the Queen's Knighthoods, CBEs, OBEs and MBEs.

The documents state that those awarded will include: "Charitable service, education, science, literature, racial justice, gender equity, environmental stewardship, youth empowerment, health and mental health."

News of the awards came as Prince William and Kate boarded the royal train for their first UK tour with a very festive send-off this evening.

The couple were clearly delighted as 72-year-old Welsh singer Shakin' Stevens performed his classic hit Merry Christmas Everyone on the platform at Euston station.

The Duchess, wearing an Alexander McQueen coat and tartan scarf, tapped her foot and swayed to the music as they waved to passengers from a balcony.

The Cambridges set off on a three-day journey to pay tribute to those who have gone “above and beyond” this year, kicking off with a special tribute to transport workers who have kept the country moving.
