Divorce: How to tell your marriage is over

Marriage is a beautiful and fulfilling experience when you’re with the right person. Most people who decide to get married do it with the intention of growing old with their best friend and soul mate.

At the same time, marriage can be the one of those experiences you live to regret. As you’re exchanging vows, it’s hard to imagine that one day you will sign divorce papers and walk away from something that was so amazing at the beginning.

The reality about marriages these days is that very few people manage to enjoy them. And unfortunately, there are those moments when you can clearly see that things aren’t working out anymore.

Below are five signs that may indicate your marriage is done.

You live separate lives

In the dating and honey moon stages of every relationship, it’s natural to want to spend time with your bae as much as you can. After a while when your relationship progresses into marriage, you should still want to be around your spouse. It shows you still deeply love each other.

If you reach a point in your marriage when you both seem to be doing your own thing without including each other, it’s a warning sign that the love is growing cold.

This is different from being busy because in some cases, you’re still very much together. But if you would both rather be by yourselves or with other people, that’s a huge concern.

The marriage has become sexless

Sex is a beautiful and important part of a marriage. There is a deep spiritual element to it and that’s why it should be enjoyed with the person you’re married to.

For many couples who are struggling to stay together, sex is one of the first things that disappears as the relationship moves towards divorce.

Sex is actually a crucial need for married couples so when it stops, there’s a big problem. It’s also not a good sign if sex has become somewhat forced and meaningless.

You’re content with seeing other people

There are many married couples who are together but not really together as far as commitment is concerned. As much as many people don’t like to admit it, being with other people when you’re married is adultery. Whether it’s done in secret or openly.

When you’re okay with dating other people while you’re still married, it’s clear that the vows are no longer important.

You’ve tried everything

No one enjoys seeing their marriage fall apart. You might have wanted to stay and tried everything from counselling to taking a couple’s vacation and spending more time together but nothing seems to work.

If you’ve been putting in the effort to work things through together but there are no positive results, it could mean that the damage is already done.

Staying seems like a nightmare

For some couples, there is a willingness to at least try before completely letting the marriage go. But in other situations, there is so much toxicity to a point where you have no interest in staying together for even one extra day.

Those harsh emotions could mean that you’re completely done and that no amount of therapy can fix the brokenness.
