Six lessons to learn from your children

Adulting can cover up some of the most important lessons we need to remember.

There are bills to pay, children to take care of and other matters that need a lot of attention and seriousness.

Being an adult is certainly not easy. In fact, there are times when I miss the carefree life I had when I was younger.

Adulthood doesn’t always have to involve angry days and stressful times. One way of living your best life is by observing your kids and seeing how they handle different situations.

Children are smarter and full of wisdom in more ways than we think. If you pay close attention, you’ll realize there’s a lot you can learn from them.

i.Have fun

Children are carefree and sometimes a little careless. As a parent, you might be tempted to overprotect them at times.

Being too uptight can prevent you from living your life to the fullest.

The daily responsibilities leave no space for the good times.

You shouldn’t always be too serious with life though. Your kids will teach you to loosen up more and enjoy those happy moments.

Play with your kids and enjoy life for what it is.

ii.Don’t place your value on what others think

Nobody likes the feeling of rejection and criticism. Although these are things that build strong character, they still affect your self-confidence to some extent.

Children are usually unapologetic and they have no problem expressing themselves.

That innocent view of life is exactly what you need to be the bold version of yourself.

iii.Be kind to others

As we grow older, we build walls around our emotions. It’s hard to trust anyone especially because of all those stories we hear out there.

The world is a cold place but you can choose to be the glimmer of humanity. Children like to share what they have and comfort a friend who is hurt.

This should encourage you to be kind to others and have a more compassionate heart when dealing with people.

iv.Stand up for yourself

You’ve probably seen kids who don’t try to hide it when they’re not happy. They might have an attitude sometimes but beneath that is a strong and confident child.

Many struggle standing up for themselves and this often causes a breach of personal values. That entire experience chips away your happiness and esteem which only leads to more issues when dealing with yourself and others.

Your children will teach you to never let anyone force you to do things you’re not comfortable with especially when it comes to relationships.

v.Explore new territories

The hallmark of adulthood is playing it safe. There are a lot of responsibilities around you and it’s hard to take risks.

Every move you make affects people who look up to you and with time you become rigid on the chances you’re willing to take.

You should be more careful and wise when it comes to decision making but you shouldn’t let those fears hinder your happiness.

Some of the best decisions you’ll make could be the risky ones.

vi.Be willing to learn

Children ask questions out of curiosity. They genuinely want to understand how things work no matter how trivial the questions are. Most people don’t like to look uneducated or uninformed.

The risk of looking dumb often suppresses the need to learn new things. At the end of the day, people become more knowledgeable when they have the courage to ask questions when they’re not too sure about something.

There’s no single person who knows everything and there is always that freedom to learn.

Children are the most wonderful and caring beings to ever exist. The next time your child tries to give you some advice, humbly listen and embrace the lessons they have to teach.
