Let’s make the famous boiled shrimp boil as seen on Mukbang - the Korean online broadcast in which a host eats large amounts of foods while interacting with their audience
What you will need:
For the shrimps;
2kg large shrimps, deveined and cleaned with heads on
1 and 1/2kg potatoes, peeled and boiled
2 large onions, diced
2 teaspoons curry powder
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 curry cubes, salted
10 fresh lime halved
2 garlic cloves halved
2 litres water (for boiling)
For the sauce;
250g butter
1 onion, diced
4 tablespoons garlic ginger paste (diluted in 1/2 cup water)
1 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons hot chilli sauce
3-4 curry or chicken cubes
Juice of 3 limes
1 tablespoon vinegar
3 cups of the shrimp stock (from the boil)
What to do:
For the shrimp;
In a large pot add the water and bring to a boil. Add the sliced onions, curry powder, paprika, black pepper, curry cubes, 7-8 halved lime with skin, stir well and bring to a boil.
Get your shrimps and ensure you have cleaned them well by passing them through running water.
Put the shrimps one by one in the boiling stock let them cook in the stock for about 6-8 minutes. The shrimps will change colour to orange once cooked. Remove the shrimp from the stock, set aside and reserve the stock to use in the sauce.
For the sauce;
In a deep pan over medium heat, melt the butter, add diced onion, diluted garlic ginger paste and mix well.
Add the curry cubes, hot chilli sauce, paprika, vinegar and the juice of 3 lime and let it cook until you see the oils separating from the sauce.
To the sauce, add 3 cups of the reserved shrimp stock, plus all the cooked onions and halved limes and bring to a boil for another 10 minutes until reduced.
Pour the sauce in a large bowl, add some boiled potatoes and shrimps in the sauce and serve with extra potatoes and shrimps on the side.
