
The son of Matuga MP Hassan Mwanyoha has been charged with three counts of violent robbery in a Mombasa court.
It is reported that the legislator’s son, Mafanikio Hassan Mwanyoha aka Fani Mwanyoha allegedly, attacked Peter Schadwsky, a tourist in Diani, Kwale before snatching a cell phone, 125 Euros, a bag, spectacles and five credits cards among other things.
It is said that Mafanikio, who was armed with a knife committed the offence at Bougainvillea estate in Diani. The accused has been held at the local prison in Kwale since August 19 last month when he was arrested and remanded after he failed to raise the Sh1 million bond imposed by the court in one of the latest cases entered as file 885/15.
Police said that Mafanikio committed the offence together with one Ali Hussein Hassan with whom they have been charged. If convicted, they could be sentenced to life.
The charge sheet reads: “On the 19th day of August 2015 at Bougainvillea estate within Diani location in Msambweni District within Kwale County jointly while armed with a knife robbed Peter Schadwsky of one bag, one LG mobile phone, one pair of spectacles, one company ID card and five credit cards all valued at 125 euros (Ksh14,625).
It further reads that immediately before and after the robbery they threatened to use actual violence to the said Peter Schadwsky.
The witnesses to the case are listed as Peter Schadwsky, Fredrick Nyale, Samson Osoro, Stephen Kariuki and a one corporal Mutunga.
The two suspects who have been in custody complained before the court that they were assaulted by one corporal Ibrahim prompting the magistrate to order the Diani Police Station OCS to investigate the allegations and present a report. But a report by prosecution tabled on September 3 indicate that the accused were beaten by a mob as they were escaping.
The hearing of the case is slated for November 23, with a mention on September 16.
