Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated Valentine’s Day by announcing that they’re pregnant.

On Sunday, a spokesperson of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed that Prince Archie will soon be a big brother.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

The announcement was accompanied by a black and white photograph of Meghan lying on the grass with one hand on her baby bump and her head on Harry’s lap.

Last year, Meghan revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage in a deeply personally penned article for the New York Times.

“It was a July morning that began as ordinarily as any other day,” she described. “After changing his diaper, I felt a sharp cramp. I dropped to the floor with him in my arms, humming a lullaby to keep us both calm, the cheerful tune a stark contrast to my sense that something was not right. I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”

Meghan and Harry got married in 2018, a union that caught the world’s attention as Meghan was the first person of colour to join the royal family. In May the following year their son, Prince Archie, was born.

“It's been the most amazing experience I can ever possibly imagine,” Prince Harry said at the time. “How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, and we're both absolutely thrilled.”

In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were quitting the royal family to pursue a more independent life. They have since been involved in charity work and made a number of TV and media deals including with Netflix and Disney+.

In December they launched a podcast, Archwell Audio, in partnership with Spotify.
