First Lady praises medical board for setting up Sh260 million office complex

Kenya: The Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (MPDB) is building a new office complex worth Sh260 million in Nairobi.

The office, which is expected to be complete by the end of next year, will relieve the board of the challenges of operating in a residential house they had converted into an office.

Speaking during the laying of the foundation of the complex yesterday at the MPDB headquarters, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta said the Government was committed to ensuring Kenyans access proper medical facilities and care, more so maternal health facilities.

She urged doctors to discharge their duties with integrity and professionalism and ascertain quality service delivery in all hospitals. “I want to urge all doctors to ensure quality discharge of services. They should act with integrity and professionalism of the highest level,” she said.

She added: “I’m supporting the board on this project because they are doing what is close to my heart.”

Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia commended the board for the sacrifice it has made in an effort to own their building.

“The Government will give the board technical support in its regulatory framework and will look forward to regular briefs on the implementation of this important project,” said the CS.

Mr Macharia also lauded the board’s resolute efforts to continue generating funds through internal savings towards the construction of the building.

He said the board has done a good job for being at the forefront in setting standards and in developing several guidelines towards improved healthcare regulation like the approval of one new dental and six medical schools.
