Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is looking for Nathan Ambuti, the 76-year-old man who cycled from Butere, Kakamega to Nairobi to attend the burial of the late Mzee Daniel Moi.

Through his social media handles, Sonko said that Ambuti’s story touched him as he cycled for four days to join the rest of Kenyans in sending off Mzee Moi.

“Watu wangu, nimeguzwa sana na hii story 76-year-old Mzee Nathan Ambuti who his obvious adoration of the Late 2nd President H.E. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi cycled for 4 days all the way from Kakamega to Kabarak to attend his State Funeral dressed in a KANU-flag tie, ” said Sonko.

Since Ambuti spent his nights sleeping on verandahs during his journey as he could not afford to pay for a hotel room, the legislator says he wants to help him get home.

"I can't imagine how this "self-made peace ambassador for Kenya" will make his way to his home back in Butere,” said Sonko.

The Nairobi Governor has asked Kenyans to help him reach Mzee Ambuti to make his trip back to Kakamega easier.

“If anyone has Mzee Ambuti's contacts, please share we see how we can make the return trip easier for this gallant patriotic Kenyan,” added Sonko.

Ambuti, who describes himself as a peace ambassador, says he did not want to miss Moi’s funeral.

“I would not wish to miss the funeral of the man who was an icon of peace not only in Kenya but across Africa,” said Ambuti.

Ambuti’s bicycle had different messages of peace and national flags from various countries.

Upon reaching the Kabarak gate at Moi’s home on Tuesday morning February 11, Ambuti says he was turned away by officers who asked him to go the next day.

"I have been turned away at the Kabarak gate by tough looking security officers who asked me to come tomorrow," says Ambuti.

However, on the of the funeral, Ambuti finally got his wish and he was allowed into the home of the late former president.
