Parliament to reconvene for special sitting once BBI report is ready

The National Assembly will reconvene for a special sitting once the BBI report is ready.
According to the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, the House will reconvene as soon as the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee is ready to table the report.
Muturi said the bill was to be presented on April 1 but had to wait after the House adjourned its sittings in measures to contain a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.
"I have not received any request for a special sitting from any quarter. Standing orders are clear, it is the Leader of the Minority or Majority who may request the speaker, for reasons to be stated. And If the speaker is satisfied with the reasons advanced, necessitate the calling of a special sitting," said Muturi
Muturi was speaking at his home in Mbeere North sub-county when he received a delegation of 20 MCAs led by Tharaka Nithi County County Assembly Speaker, John Mbaya.
The MCAs drawn from Tharaka Nithi County supported the move by elders from Embu, Kikuyu and Meru to install Muturi as Mt Kenya East spokesperson and kingpin.
They observed that the region has been without a spokesperson since the '60s and called on leaders to support the National Assembly Speaker.
"We call upon our brothers from the Central and Mt Kenya region, in general, to rally behind our son Muturi," said nominated MCA Millicent Magana.
Tharaka Nithi Majority Leader, Nyaga Muisiraeli, faulted politicians who say they were not consulted ahead of the ceremony held at Njuri Ncheke shrine in Nchiru, Meru County and pledged that they will rally behind Muturi.
Muisiraeli challenged them to move with the masses.
