The interns have been waiting, some for more than one year, to undertake the compulsory internship.
Dr Davji Atellah, the secretary-general of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU), who was leading the peaceful demonstration, was among those brutalised by police officers.
