Covid-19: 23 deaths, 166 new cases recorded in last 24 hours

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,287 on Sunday, June 6 after 23 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

The country also recorded 166 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,561 raising the country's caseload to 172,491.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 4.7 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 1,834,247.

Out of the new patients, 116 are male, whereas 50 are female, with the youngest carrier aged four, and the oldest aged 97.

Of the new cases, 10 are foreigners, while the rest were Kenyans.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi recorded 48 cases, Uasin Gishu 21, Nyeri 18, Busia 17, Kisii 9, Nakuru and Kilifi 8 cases each, Meru, Narok and Siaya 4 cases each, Muranga, Nandi, Trans Nzoia and Kirinyaga 3 cases each, Elgeyo Marakwet, Mombasa, Homa Bay 2 cases each.

Kakamega, Kajiado, Kericho, Kiambu, Machakos, Mandera and Migori all had a case each.

In terms of sub-county distribution, the 48 cases in Nairobi are from Langata and Westlands (5) cases each, Embakasi West, Ruaraka and Starehe (4) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi East, Embakasi North and Kibra (3) cases each, Embakasi South, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Makadara, Mathare and Roysambu (2) cases each, Dagoretti North and Embakasi Central  (1) case each.

In Uasin Gishu, the 21 cases are from Turbo (8), Kapseret (7), Ainabkoi and Soy (2) cases each, Kesses and Moiben (1) case each.

The total recoveries so far stand at 117,597 after 93 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 90 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 3 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 85,396 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 32,199 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,177 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,904 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

One hundred and five (105) patients are in the ICU, 26 of whom are on ventilatory support and 62 on supplemental oxygen. Seventeen (17) patients are on observation.

Another 95 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 88 of them in general wards and seven (7) in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Vaccination

Kenya has as of today, vaccinated 975,399 against the Covid-19 disease countrywide.

Of these 295,539 are aged 58 years and above, others stand at 277, 803 while health workers so far vaccinated are 166,225.

So far 153, 095 teachers have been vaccinated while security officers are 82, 745.

In the second dose, 8,181 have received their doses of which 4,607 are health workers, 606 teachers and 401 security officers.

The number of those aged 58 years and above who have received the second dose stands at 1,053.
