Covid-19: 98 news cases recorded as eight succumbs to virus

Kenya has recorded 98 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours raising the country's total caseload to 100,773.

In a statement sent to media houses by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe (pictured) said the new cases are from 3,739 samples which push the country's cumulative tests to 1,186,951.

In terms of gender, 82 are male and 16 are female while the youngest case is 10-year-old and the oldest is aged 85.

Of the new cases, 86 are Kenyans while 12 are foreigners.

On a positive note, 52 patients recovered with 23 from the home-based care programme while 29 were discharged from various hospitals bringing the total number of recoveries to 83,907.

However, Kagwe said eight patients have succumbed to the disease bringing Kenya’s fatalities since March to 1,763.

A total of 471 are admitted in various health facilities while 1,408 are in the Home-based Isolation.

Twenty-five patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of which 14 are on ventilatory support while 11 are on supplemental oxygen.

Separately, another 16 patients are in the supplementary Oxygen, of whom 13 are general wards while three are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

Distribution

In counties’ distribution, Nairobi leads with 86, Meru 2, Mombasa 2, Nakuru 2, Busia 1, Kajiado 1, Kiambu 1, Kisumu 1, Machakos 1 and Nyeri 1.

In Nairobi’s sub-counties, the 86 cases in Nairobi were from Starehe (48), Westlands (9), Dagoretti North (7), Kibra (3), Embakasi Central, Embakasi East, Embakasi West, Makadara, Mathare and Ruaraka (2) cases each, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Kamukunji, Kasarani, Lang’ata and Roysambu (1) case each.
