The Government has shut down 196 health facilities in an ongoing re-inspection ordered by Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki.
However the list of the closed facilities is yet to be made public as the deadline for the re-inspection comes to an end this month.
The order for fresh inspection was given in May.
It was informed by several incidents including one that left a seven-month baby dead and another where woman was filmed giving birth unattended.
In another incident, a woman bled to death while giving birth, further putting the quality of Kenya's health services in the spotlight.
According to the CS, 1,210 facilities have been inspected. Out of these, 129 have been downgraded while 17 will be upgraded.
The inspection covered both public and private hospitals. From the inspection, 26 fake medics have been arrested while 42 medical professionals will face disciplinary action.
CS Kariuki said the inspection is not meant to infuse fear and will continue until all facilities are reviewed.
“The Government has made a commitment to quality, not just to make Universal Health Coverage a reality, but institute systematic changes,"she said.
