Covid-19: 16 deaths, 162 new cases recorded in last 24 hours

Kenya’s Covid-19 toll reached 3,157 on Sunday, May 30 after 16 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours.

The country also recorded 162 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, from a sample of 3,452 raising the country's caseload to 170,647.

In a statement, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections take the country’s positivity rate to 4.7 per cent and cumulated tests conducted so far to 1,809,890.

Out of the new patients, 198 are male, whereas 146 are female, with the youngest aged 17, and the oldest aged 70.

Distribution

In terms of counties distribution, Nairobi leads with 55 cases, Busia 32, Homa Bay, Kilifi, Mombasa 10 cases each, Kiambu 8, Kisii 5, Meru 4, Kisumu, Migori, Uasin Gishu, Nyeri and Nakuru 3 cases each, Kitui, Kwale, Machakos and Turkana 2 cases each, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Trans Nzoia, Kajiado and Kirinyaga a case each.

In Nairobi, the 55 cases are from Langata (10), Dagoretti North and Kibra (5) cases each, Embakasi West, Makadara and Roysambu (4) cases each, Embakasi Central, Mathare and Ruaraka (3) cases each, Embakasi East, Embakasi South, Embakasi North, Kamukunji, Starehe and Westlands (2) cases each. Dagoretti South and Kasarani recorded a case each.

In Busia, the 32 cases are from Teso North (21) Matayos (11) cases.

In Homa Bay, the 10 cases are from Homa Bay Town (7), Karachuonyo (2), Rachuonyo South (1).

In Kilifi, the 10 cases are from Rabai (5) cases, Kilifi North and Malindi (2) cases each and Magarini (1) case.

The total recoveries so far stand at 116,776 after 643 patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours with 406 from the Home-Based and Isolation care programme while 237 are from various health facilities in the country.

Of the total recoveries, 84,832 are from the Home Based Isolation Care programme while 31,944 are from various hospitals countrywide.

A total of 1,225 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,724 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care.

Ninety-three (93) patients are in the ICU, 20 of whom are on ventilatory support and 56 on supplemental oxygen. Seventeen (17) patients are on observation.

Another 85 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 79 of them in general wards and six (6) in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
